Lesa S. Gelb Esq.
570-763-4714
I am a 1985 graduate of Boston University School of Law. I have been representing individuals in courtrooms throughout the state since soon after I graduated from law school. I have represented thousands of individuals and have tried numerous cases. My career did not begin, nor does it end, in the courtroom. While I attended my undergraduate studies at Cornell University, I also worked in the Carter White House and for the Democratic National Committee. While attending law school, I also worked for numerous candidates for public office, including as paid staff for the Cranston and Mondale campaigns in 1984.
In Luzerne County, in 1998 I was elected to the Democratic State Committee, and was re-elected in 2002 and 2006. I serve on the Executive Committee and the Women's Caucus. I am currently Co-Vice Chair of the Luzerne County Democratic Executive Committee. In 2003, I was Chair of the primary campaign of Todd Vonderheid, who was elected to be a Luzerne County commissioner. I have worked extensively on many other local and national campaigns.
I do not limit my public involvement to politics. I am currently a board member and vice-chairperson of Maternal and Family Health Services. I am an officer and trustee of the Temple Israel Board of Directors. I am a current board member of the Diversity Institute of Misericordia University. I previously served on the Board of Directors and as Vice President of the League of Women Voters, as President of the American Business Women's Association, on the Board of Jewish Family Services of Wilkes-Barre, and on the Board of Directors and as counsel for the Association for Retarded Citizens.
I have been a panel speaker at the League of Women Voters statewide convention. I was an instructor in the Act 120 Police Officer Training Program.
I was extremely proud and honored to be appointed by Governor Rendell to serve on Pennsylvania's Election Reform Task Force in 2005.
My background is not one of privilege. My father ran a one person business selling health and beauty aids to local mom and pop stores; my mother was a housewife. I work very hard in what I do, but I remember my background and the hardships my family has endured. I believe that is why I am so dedicated to Democratic politics and why I have devoted my legal career to representing individuals in need.
